The most common cause of this issue is an unstable or faulty network connection, but it could also occur due to incorrect permission settings or an outdated software version.

1. Check Internet Connection and DNS Settings

As the error can occur due to a poor connection with the Microsoft servers, you can test it by checking your internet speed through FAST or SpeedTest by Ookla. You can also test it by switching to a different network, such as your mobile data or another Wi-Fi source. 

DNS translates domain names such as microsoft.com into IP addresses, allowing your computer to communicate with the right servers. If there’s an issue with your current DNS provider, Copilot may not connect properly, hence causing this issue.

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Click on Network & Internet.
  3. Select Change adapter options under the Advanced network settings tab.
  4. Right-click on the active network and select Properties.
  5. Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  6. Enter a DNS you prefer, such as Google’s (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare’s (1.1.1.1).

The error could also occur due to outdated or incorrect records stored by the DNS cache. You can easily clear this cache by opening the Command Prompt and typing in ipconfig/flushdns. This will reset the DNS resolver cache and force the system to fetch new DNS information.

2. Reconfigure Your Network

Reconfiguring your network can clear out any cached data, DNS configurations, or IP conflicts that may cause issues between the connection of Copilot and Microsoft’s servers. This solution can help restore a stable network connection, which is required for Copilot’s voice mode to function without any issues.

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator by searching for it through the search bar, right-clicking on it, and selecting Run as administrator.
  2. In the command box, enter the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each one:
    ipconfig /release 
    
    ipconfig /renew 
    
    ipconfig /flushdns 
    
    ipconfig /registerdns 
    
    netsh int ip reset 
    
    netsh winsock reset 
    
    netsh winhttp reset proxy

  3. Lastly, restart your computer and check if the error persists.

3. Re-login to Your Account

When you log in to Copilot, your browser creates a session. If there is a problem with the session, it may result in issues with functionality. By logging out and logging in, you refresh your session, which can clear out any temporary authentication glitches that might be causing the error.

  1. Open Copilot.
  2. Click on your avatar located on the top right and click on Sign out.
  3. Confirm the sign-out and restart your browser.
  4. Once restarted, click on Sign in at the top right, where your avatar was.
  5. Enter your sign-in information and check if the error persists.

4. Update Copilot and Windows

New updates often include fixes for bugs and compatibility issues that could be causing this problem. An outdated version of Copilot can lead to interruptions as Copilot depends on the latest software to communicate with Microsoft’s servers. By ensuring that both Windows and Copilot are updated, you confirm that all critical components are functioning correctly.

Update Copilot

  1. Open Microsoft Store and go to Library by clicking on it from the left pane.
  2. Once in Library, locate Microsoft Copilot.
  3. If there is an update available for Microsoft Copilot, it will show up next to it.
  4. If available, click on Update and Microsoft Store will start updating it for you.

Update Windows

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows keys.
  2. Go to Update & Security.
  3. Click on Windows Update in the left pane.
  4. Click on Check for updates.
  5. Windows will now download and install any available updates. Once done, it will prompt you to restart your computer. Allow it and check if the error persists.

5. Check Permissions and Browser Settings

Microsoft Copilot depends on microphone permissions and Microsoft Edge settings to process voice input and communicate with Microsoft’s servers without any issues. By checking permissions and browser settings, you can remove common restrictions that can cause issues with Microsoft Copilot’s voice functionality. Cached data can also sometimes cause functionality or connectivity issues.

Microphone Access Permission

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows keys.
  2. Go to Privacy.
  3. Select Microphone under App permissions from the left pane.
  4. Make sure that Allow access to the microphone on this device is turned on. You can do this by clicking on the Change option under it and checking if it is toggled on.

Browser Settings

  1. Open Microsoft Edge and go to Settings.
  2. Select Privacy, search, and services from the left pane.
  3. Scroll down and locate the Services tab.
  4. Now, make sure that features such as Microsoft Edge can use Copilot content or let apps use the browser content (if available) are enabled.

Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

  1. Once again, go to Edge’s Settings.
  2. Select Privacy, search, and services from the left pane.
  3. Under Delete browsing data, click on Choose what to clear.
  4. Change the Time range to All time.

  4. Lastly, follow the on-screen instructions to update the application to the latest version.

For CPU-Z

  1. To download the latest update, navigate to the CPU-Z webpage.
  2. On the webpage, scroll down and click on the Setup button in the classic version section.
  3. On the following webpage, click on the Download Now button to download the latest executable file of CPU-Z.
  4. Lastly, launch the downloaded EXE file and follow the on-screen instructions. This will automatically update the CPU-Z application to the latest version.

3. Reinstall Monitoring and Control Applications

Reinstalling the monitoring and control applications will replace any corrupt or missing files that could be causing this error. If you don’t use these applications or simply don’t wish to keep them, you can choose to keep them uninstalled.

For Corsair iCUE

  1. Open the Start Menu, search for Control Panel, and select it.
  2. In the Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by menu, and select Programs and Features.
  3. From the programs list, locate and right-click on the Corsair iCUE application, and select Uninstall. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the process.
  4. After that, to reinstall the application, navigate to the webpage of the Corsair iCUE application.
  5. Click on the Download iCUE button on the webpage.
  6. Next, select the Download button specific for the Windows OS to initiate the downloading of the Executable (EXE) file.

1. Run Bluetooth Troubleshooter

The Bluetooth troubleshooter is a dedicated tool on Windows that automatically detects and fixes various technical issues with Bluetooth. 

  1. Open the Start menu, search for Bluetooth Troubleshooter and select it. 
  2. In the Bluetooth troubleshooter window, click on the Advanced button, check Apply repairs automatically, and click on the Next button.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

2. Update Windows 

As AVCTP is a core component of the Windows 11 Bluetooth service, the latest Windows updates could address issues related to it. Hence, updating Windows is crucial to solving this issue.

  1. Click on the Start button, search for Settings, and click on it. 
  2. In Settings, navigate to Windows Update, located in the left panel.
  3. In the Windows Update section, click on the Check for Updates button to automatically download and install the latest Windows updates.
  4. Once updates are installed, reboot your PC and check if the issue is resolved. 

3. Update and Re-Install Bluetooth Drivers

Updating the Bluetooth drivers to the latest version ensures optimal performance and compatibility between the computer and the Bluetooth multimedia devices. If updating doesn’t resolve the issue, reinstalling the drivers can be a second option.

  1. Hold down the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the run command, then type devmgmt.msc in the run command and hit enter.
  2. In Device Manager, search for Bluetooth drivers, then right-click and select Update Driver from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the next prompt, select Search automatically for drivers to install Bluetooth drivers automatically.
  4. If the issue persists even after updating Bluetooth drivers, try reinstalling the Bluetooth drivers.
  5. Open the Start Menu, search for Device Manager and click on it. 
  6. Locate Bluetooth, right-click on it and select the Uninstall Drivers option from the drop-down menu.
  7. The driver will uninstall; after that, perform a device reboot and Windows will automatically reinstall the missing driver.
  8. Lastly, verify if the issue has been fixed. 

4. Disable AVCTP Service 

Disabling the AVCTP service from the Services Management Console could be a working fix for this issue, but this will also disable the ability to control multimedia commands on Bluetooth devices, such as play and pause. Before you disable the AVCTP service, we recommend stopping and starting it to determine if it fixes the problem.

  1. Open the start menu, search for Services and click on it. 
  2. In the Services Management Console, look for AVCTP service and double-click on it.
  3. Select the Stop button to terminate the service.
  4. Then, click on the Start button to restart the service and check if the issue resolves.
  5. If the issue persists, navigate to Services Management Console > AVCTP service, then click on the Startup type drop-down menu and select the Disabled option.
  6. After that, select Stop and then click on Apply and OK.

5. Reset Windows

If the solutions above didn’t fix the issue, resetting Windows might be your last resort, as this will replace any missing or corrupt files and restore all settings to their default state.

Note: Resetting Windows will result in the erasure of data, so proceed with caution.

  1. Open the Start menu, search Reset this PC and click on it.
  2. Click on the Reset this PC button in the Recovery options section.
  3. Select Keep my files if you wish to keep your personal files, although this will still remove apps and settings. Otherwise, select Remove everything for a clean Windows install.
  4. In the next prompt, select the Cloud Download option, as this enables Windows to automatically download and replace any missing or damaged files.
  5. Click Next in the following prompt. 
  6. Lastly, click the Reset button to initiate the resetting process. This prompt will also highlight all the selected options and information for you to review before proceeding.
  7. The reset process will take some time to finish; after that, the problem should resolve.

Even if they update their birth date to 18 or older in their Microsoft account, the issue persists, which is very frustrating for daily Copilot users.

This can occur because Copilot continues to fetch the old data instead of the updated user information. The error seems to arise due to Copilot’s inability to recognize the age, frequently leading to the “Verify Your Age” issue.

Moreover, if your Microsoft account is relatively new, you are likely to encounter this issue. To resolve this, you need to wait patiently for some time. Now, with these causes in mind, let’s take a look at the solutions to this issue.

1. Verify Your Age (if haven’t done already)

If you have set your Microsoft account age to below 18, this might be why you are unable to use Copilot. Verifying your age or setting it to 18 or older will remove any age restrictions that might be causing this issue.

After updating your age, you will need to wait for some time for Copilot to fetch the updated user information. To verify the age, follow these steps:

  1. From the Copilot Window, click Verify your age. This will navigate you to the info page of your Microsoft account.
  2. To change the age, click on Date of birth.
  3. If Microsoft requires verification, please go ahead and verify yourself.
  4. Now change the date of birth if needed and click Save. This should make Copilot work. If it’s still not working, you can proceed to try other methods to resolve the issue.

2. Reset or Repair the Copilot App on Windows

Resetting the Copilot will not only fix the corrupted files but also clear the cache data, which will force Copilot to fetch the updated information about your Microsoft account. This will resolve the issue if old or incorrect information is saved in the cache regarding your age.

Meanwhile, repairing the Copilot will restore the corrupted files but won’t clear the cache data. This can fix the issue if the problem is caused by corrupted files. Before proceeding to the steps, make sure you have set the age to 18 or older by following the previous steps.

  1. Press the Win key and type Settings.
  2. Go to Apps from the left and select Installed Apps.
  3. Type Copilot and click the three dots.
  4. Then, select Advanced Options, scroll down to the bottom, and click Repair.
  5. Wait for the repair process to finish. Once done, check if the issue persists. If it does, try Resetting the Copilot to fix the issue.

3. Clear the Browser Cache

If you are using Copilot in a browser, clearing the cache data can be helpful in resolving this issue. Websites save user information in the cache so that it does not need to be fetched every time the user reloads or accesses the website.

Even if you have updated your age in the Microsoft account, it is possible that the old user information is saved in the browser’s cache, and Copilot keeps fetching it, resulting in this issue.

  1. Open the browser, click the three dots, and select Settings.
  2. Then, select Cookies and site performance from the left sidebar.
  3. Navigate to Manage and delete cookies and site data > Cookies and site data.
  4. Search for copilot.microsoft.com, expand Microsoft.com, and delete the copilot.microsoft.com cache data.
  5. Once done, verify if this resolved your issue.

After following the above solutions, if the issue persists, it is likely because Copilot is temporarily unable to recognize your age. In this case, you need to wait for a while for Copilot to fetch the correct information from the server. In the meantime, you can reinstall Copilot from the Microsoft Store to see if this can resolve your issue.

When your Microsoft Teams camera doesn’t work, you’ll usually encounter a black screen or be unable to start video during meetings, even if the camera functions in other apps. This is often due to permission issues or outdated drivers. The main problem typically involves incorrect app settings blocking Teams from accessing your camera, which may also be caused by other software or background apps using the camera simultaneously.

Other reasons include an outdated version of Teams, incorrect camera settings, or hardware problems. Before attempting complex troubleshooting methods, let’s explore some basic solutions that might resolve the issue.

  • Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, simply restarting the computer can fix the issue.
  • Ensure the Camera Is Working in Another App: First, ensure your camera is functioning correctly. You can check this by launching the built-in camera app or any third-party camera application. If the camera works in these apps, the issue may be specific to Microsoft Teams.
  • Check Your Camera’s Cable: Occasionally, a loose or damaged cable can be the issue. Gently manipulate the wire near the connection points to see if the camera flickers or starts working. If it does, the wire may be damaged and require replacement.
  • Try Different USB Ports: If your camera is connected via USB, try plugging it into a different port. Some ports (especially the front port of your PC) may not deliver enough power or have issues themselves.
  • USB Extension Caution: If you’re using a USB extension cable, it might be causing connectivity problems. Try connecting the camera directly without the extension to rule that out.

Now that we have tried basic troubleshooting methods and the issue persists, you can follow the detailed solutions mentioned below.

1. Update or Reinstall Driver Using Device Manager

Device Manager in Windows is a tool for managing your computer’s hardware. It lists all connected devices, such as your keyboard, mouse, and printer, and allows you to troubleshoot, update drivers, and enable or disable devices. We’ll use Device Manager to check for problems with our camera and try to fix any main issues.

  1. Click on the Windows Search, type Device Manager, and open it.
  2. Once you open Device Manager, locate the Camera section and right-click on your camera device.
  3. Select Properties and then Update Driver.
  4. Now click on Search automatically for drivers.

If your driver is already updated, you can alternatively choose Browse my computer for driver software and select from a list of available drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

This shows a list of compatible drivers for installation. My camera uses the “HP Wide Vision HD Camera” driver, but there’s also a Windows camera driver. We’ll choose the specific one that supports my camera.

Some cameras, such as those from brands like RAZER or Logitech, come with their own built-in software and drivers. These cameras often use proprietary hardware, and it’s essential to install their specific drivers for operation. So, if your camera is one of these, make sure to visit the manufacturer’s website and download the official drivers. Otherwise, the camera won’t function properly.

Note: Most manufacturer-related detailed information is provided on your webcam or its box.

  1. Open the manufacturer’s website of your webcam on any web browser.
  2. Find the webcam drivers and download them from the website.
  3. After downloading, install the drivers, and you’re good to go.

2. Route Your Camera Through a Virtual Camera App

If you’re still encountering issues with Microsoft Teams not detecting your camera, you can solve this problem by routing your camera feed through a virtual camera application. Apps such as ManyCam, OBS Studio, or Snap Camera act as intermediaries that provide Teams with the necessary video feed.

We are going to use Manycam for demonstration purposes. If your camera adapter is not functioning properly, it works as a virtual webcam, allowing you to select and stream your camera feed without needing to rely on a faulty adapter.

  1. Download a virtual camera app such as ManyCam.
  2. Now install and open the software.
    By default, it will automatically detect your webcam, but in case it doesn’t, you can choose manually.
  3. On the button panel, find and click on the “⋮ Dot” tab.
  4. In the drop-down list, click on “Webcam > *Your Camera*.
  5. After selecting your webcam, click the Minimize button (top right corner of the ManyCam window).
  6. Open Microsoft Teams. In the top right corner, click on the three dots “⋯ Dot“. From the drop-down menu, select “Settings“.
  7. In Settings, click on “Devices” from the left-hand side, then on the right side, scroll down to the Camera section, click on the drop-down menu under Camera, and select ManyCam from the list as your default webcam.
  8. That’s it! Now, whatever your ManyCam captures from your camera will transfer directly into Microsoft Teams through the ManyCam adapter.

3. Allow Access to Camera

If you’re still facing issues with your camera in Microsoft Teams, let’s take a look at the camera privacy settings. We’ll make sure the right permissions are enabled for Microsoft Teams to use your camera properly.

  1. Press and hold the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Click on Privacy & Security from the left panel.
  3. Scroll down from the right side and select Camera under App permissions.
  4. At the top, switch Camera access to On to allow apps to use your camera.
  5. Below the main toggle, ensure that the camera is turned On for Microsoft Teams.
  6. Scroll down to Let desktop apps access your camera and turn it On if you want desktop apps to use the camera.

4. Set Group Policy Editor to Allow Apps to Use Camera

The Group Policy Editor is a tool in Windows that allows you to configure and control settings across the operating system, especially for privacy, security, and system behavior. For camera issues, it’s important because certain policies could be blocking access to your camera without you realizing it.

We’re exploring this because if the camera is disabled by a policy setting, it will prevent any application, including Microsoft Teams, from accessing it. This can occur due to privacy settings or corporate policies if you’re using a work device.

By checking the camera-related policies in the Group Policy Editor, we can ensure that nothing is blocking the camera from functioning properly.

Note: The Group Policy Editor is not available for Windows Home editions. Although you can install it, we recommend skipping this step if you are not familiar with it. If you still want to proceed, check out our detailed guide on How to Enable GPedit.msc on Windows Home Editions.

  1. Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Camera.
  3. Check if “Allow Use of Camera” is set to Enabled. If it’s set to Disabled, that might be why your camera isn’t working. You can change it to Enabled to unblock camera access.

5. Reset Microsoft Teams

If your Microsoft Teams app is misconfigured, it will not detect your camera. Misconfiguration is a common issue that renders a program unusable. To resolve this, we will reset its settings and configuration to revert the app to its default settings.

Note: Keep in mind that this will log you out of your account and reset all the configurations. Ensure you remember your Teams password before proceeding.

  1. Right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar (if it’s open) and select “Quit” to ensure the app is completely closed.
  2. Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  3. In the Settings window, click on “Apps” from the left-hand menu.
  4. Now in the Installed Apps section, scroll down the list or use the search bar to find “Microsoft Teams.”
  5. Click on the three dots (•••) next to Microsoft Teams and select “Advanced options.”
  6. Scroll down to the Reset section.
  7. Click on the “Reset” button. A prompt will appear confirming the reset.
  8. Click “Reset” again to confirm.
  9. Once the reset is complete, you can close the Settings app and reopen Microsoft Teams from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

If none of these solutions helped you, it’s possible that something is wrong with your camera. You can confirm this by using a different camera (you can also try using your mobile phone as a webcam to verify). It’s also possible that something is preventing Teams from accessing your camera. This can happen when the background process of applications is often linked to software updates or other startup scripts run through the task scheduler. This can be very frustrating for users, especially if you play games.

The command prompt may appear at certain intervals, such as every 10 minutes, 1 hour, or similar periods. Apart from scheduled tasks, you may also encounter this issue due to malware or corrupted system files.

With the causes in mind, let’s move to the solutions that can help identify the culprit resulting in this issue.

1. Disable the Culprit Program from the Task Scheduler

Since the command prompt pops up at regular intervals, we can identify the culprit program that is causing the issue by using the Windows Task Scheduler. We can simply disable the scheduled tasks that trigger the command prompt once we identify the culprit.

To identify the culprit program, you need to either note down the time when the command prompt pops up, or you can identify it by using the task description, which contains the intervals at which the program is triggering the command prompt.

Common tasks that often cause the command prompt to pop up are GoogleUpdateDaily and OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration. If you cannot find the culprit program by following the steps below, you can look for these tasks and disable them to fix the issue.

Note: Only disable tasks if you are confident they are non-essential or directly related to the unwanted command prompt activity. If unsure, research the task online to understand its purpose. Some processes, such as system and software updates, might use command prompts and should not be disabled without thorough consideration.

  1. Open the Start Menu and search for Task Scheduler.
  2. Press Enter to open it and select Task Scheduler Library from the left pane.
  3. If you have noted down the time when you encountered the last command prompt pop-up, you can easily identify which program triggered the pop-up by checking the Last Run Result. If you are not sure, wait for the command prompt to pop up again and then check the Task Scheduler.
  4. Once you are completely sure, right-click the task and select Disable.
  5. If you don’t want to disable it, double-click the task to open its Properties.
  6. Then, go to Properties and click Triggers from the top.
  7. Select the trigger and click Delete. Repeat this step with all triggers.
  8. Once done, you should no longer encounter the command prompt pop-ups.

2. Run a Full System Scan

If the issue still persists, the chances of malware executing background tasks via the command prompt are very high. Therefore, you should run a full system scan to remove any malware threats and infected files that could be causing this issue.

To run a full system scan, you can also use reliable third-party antivirus software if you prefer. However, we recommend using the built-in Windows Defender to scan the system by following these steps.

  1. Click the Start Menu and type Windows Security.
  2. Open it and navigate to Virus & Threat Protection.
  3. Click Scan Options and then select Full Scan.
  4. Finally, click Scan Now to run a full system scan.
  5. Once done, verify if the issue is resolved.

3. Disable Startup Programs

Having too many startup programs enabled can cause the command prompt to pop up without user consent. Disabling unnecessary startup programs can help you determine whether they are causing the issue.

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager to open it.
  2. Go to Startup Apps from the left pane.
  3. Right-click the unnecessary programs one by one and select Disable.
  4. Once you have disabled all the unnecessary programs, verify if the issue is fixed.
  5. If the issue is fixed, it means one of the startup programs is causing the issue. You can re-enable the startup programs one by one until you encounter the issue again. Once you have identified the program, you can now re-enable other programs and uninstall or disable the culprit one.

4. Disable VPN or Proxy
