Fix: Error Code 0x8019019a when setting up Yahoo Mail
The error code 0x8019019a appears when setting up Yahoo Mail in the Windows Mail app, usually indicating that you can’t add your Yahoo account. This error often occurs due to a login problem or communication issue between Yahoo’s server and the Mail app. It’s often because a special app password from Yahoo is needed if you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.
Other causes could be an outdated version of the Mail app or corrupted installation files.
In this article, we will discuss different solutions to fix this error.
1. Update Windows and the Mail App to the Latest Build
To fix reported bugs and to add new features, Microsoft updates Windows periodically. You may encounter issues adding the Yahoo account to the Mail app if the Mail app (or Windows) on your system is not updated to the latest version, leading to incompatibility between the OS modules. In this case, updating Windows and the Mail app on your system to the latest version may resolve the problem.
- Update Windows on your system to the latest version, ensuring no optional updates are missed.
- Press the Windows key and type Mail. Then, right-click on Mail and choose Share.
- The Microsoft Store will open to the Mail app page. If it doesn’t, close the Store and repeat step 2.
- Check for a Mail app update. If available, update it and reboot your system.
- After rebooting, check if you can use your Yahoo account with the Mail app.
2. Re-add the Yahoo Account to the Mail App
Sometimes, removing and then adding the Yahoo account again can help fix temporary problems by refreshing the link between the Mail app and Yahoo servers. Doing this resets the login process and replaces any outdated or corrupted login information with new details.
- Open the Mail app and click on Accounts in the left pane under New Mail.
- Click on your Yahoo account and select Delete Account.
- Confirm to delete the Yahoo account and reboot your PC after closing the Mail app.
- After rebooting, re-add the Yahoo account in the Mail app to see if the issue is resolved.
- If the issue persists, repeat the above steps but uncheck the Stay Signed in option when re-adding the Yahoo account.
- If the problem continues, go through steps 1 to 4 again. This time, choose Other Account POP, IMAP instead of Yahoo in the Add Account window, and fill out the details to add the Yahoo account.
- Then check if the Mail app now works correctly with the Yahoo account.
3. Reset the Mail App to the Defaults
Resetting the Mail app restores all its settings and stored data to default, removing any incorrect settings that might be causing the error. This action clears out the app’s saved information, including account details, allowing you to set up the Yahoo account from scratch.
- Press the Windows key, type Mail, and right-click on Mail to select App Settings.
- Click the Terminate button, then click Reset. Note that this will erase app data, including saved emails/passwords, but your emails will remain on the email provider’s website.
- Open the Mail app again and check if you can add the Yahoo account successfully.
4. Generate an App Password and Use it to Add the Yahoo Account to the Mail App
Yahoo often blocks standard passwords when used in third-party apps like Windows Mail due to security concerns. By generating a one-time app password, you’re ensuring a secure connection that bypasses these restrictions.
- Remove your Yahoo account from the Mail app (as discussed in Solution 2).
- Open a web browser and go to the Yahoo Mail Account Info page.
- Click on Generate App Password (near the bottom of the page) and expand the dropdown for Select Your App.
- Select Other App and click Generate.
- Copy the generated app password and open the Mail app on your system.
- Click on Account (left pane) and select Add Account (right pane).
- Select Yahoo, enter your credentials, and paste the generated app password in the password field.
- Check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.
- If not, remove the Yahoo account from the Mail app (step 1) and add it again using the app password, but choose Other Account POP, IMAP in the Add Account window.
- Fill in your details and check if the Yahoo account is successfully added to the Mail app.
